Dems Do Same Ol' Song And Dance

Hola!
I informed you a few weeks ago that my hope was to inspire some spirited debate among those in our community over issues both national and global. I've certainly inspired some discussion, albeit only peripherally related to the content of my earlier blogs, but I'll touch on that later in this communication. Let me preface my topic today by stating that an integral part of journalistic expression is the occasional Op Ed story. Even a perfunctory observation of the blogs here at the BannerGraphic would lead the casual reader to the assumption that these pieces fit into that category. That being said and set aside for the time being, was anyone else out there as nauseated as I was during the first thirty minutes or so of the Nevada Democratic debate January 15? I thought, silly me, that our typically apathetic electorate was clamoring for change. I thought that this upcoming election, sans any incumbent President or Vice President, might be different. Maybe there's one, just one candidate out there that might shake up the populace. Here we have the three Democratic darlings (or so the media have dictated) being uber-warm and fuzzy all of a sudden. Let's face it my friends. anyone who might argue that elections are won or lost in this country of political naivete on anything other than media-driven charisma and transparent alliances is an idealist of grandiose order. Hillary's sorry that she downplayed MLK's contribution to American society; she's sorry that Robert Johnson discussed Obama's alleged youthful drug experimentation...sometimes, your people get "overzealous." Is she going to disassociate herself from Johnson for the remainder of her campaign? Well, maybe not (after all Johnson makes himself heard monetarily and he also happens to be African-American), but his comments were "out of line." Barack Obama was sorry for saying that Hillary Clinton was "likable enough." His comments were obviously misconstrued and didn't come out the way he wanted them to. Let's face it, you've a candidate with plenty of rock-star charisma. Obama, who might be the definition of vague with regard to policy stances. You've got the former First Lady who has about as much charisma as a half-eaten tub of small curd cottage cheese. And then, there's Edwards, whose plastic southern-gentleman persona reeks of a rookie salesman at a "buy here/pay here" used-car lot. Nobody's going to convince me all this abrupt camaraderie and buddy-buddyness didn't have something to do with Mrs. Clinton's "spontaneous" show of emotion at a campaign event in New Hampshire, and her subsequent upset victory there. Call me a cynic, but the Democratic candidates are in a dogfight, and you can be assured every trick in the book will be used to solicit voter support. I'm not at all convinced this isn't going to backfire and facilitate the Democratic party's uncanny way of obliterating momentum and sabotaging their best opportunity in years to take up residence in the White House. 'Nuff said. And now, as promised. I am more than mildly amused that my two previous blogs, obviously intended, one to bring awareness to national and global injustices, the other simply to amuse, have provoked such naughty, rancorous little diatribes. Any dialogue is healthy, but golly, my feelings are hurt. It almost makes me want to vigorously defend Brittney when she locked herself up in the bathroom with her youngin' the other day, refusing to give up what was biologically hers. I can hear her cries of "Molon Labe!" echoing through the Hollywood Hills.

LOL...Well, aren't we the witty one today Mr. B?
I will give you kudos for a much better blog this time.
Your characterizations of the candidates are pretty much spot-on, except for thinking Obama has rockstar charisma, and maligning cottage cheese that way.
Your profile of Edwards was very good. Personally, I think he should just quietly slip away while nobody is looking.
But I will not vote for any of the three, so no matter.
(SUPPORT THOMPSON/HUNTER '08)
If the Dems do get to take up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania, do you think Hillary will bring back the silverware?
As for the rest - I am honored that you would (ever-so-discreetly) give me a shout out, but the hispanic and muslim references were rather trite.
LOL..."naughty, rancorous little diatribes". Dont feel too hurt. You can take solace in knowing that you at least post blogs that can lead to something resembling an exchange of ideas. (Sports bore me, and who wants to discuss online video clips and doilies?!?! I get better conversation from my 5-year old daughter.)
Next time you should say something in Chinese. After all, they are still socialists, love to give money & support to the DNC, and have a fondness for Bill & Hillary...just like most other democrats.
Hold your horses there, comrade! Who appointed you captain of the blog police? I personally find videos, doilies and sports to be extremely compelling. Perhaps we could find some footage of Michael Vick making doilies instead of license plates… but I digress.
It's troubling to me that you invoke the name of the good doctor Thompson. Unfortunately, our gonzo brother has fallen. Respect the dead, please.
And why do the Chinese just love the democrats? Was it not Tricky Dick who opened up relations with China thirty-some years ago? They must have a soft spot in their hearts for the good ol' GOP as well.
Selah.
I've ranted enough, though. Keep up the good work, all bloggers of the BannerGraphic. Perhaps you should consider getting a blog of your own, Mr. Labe.
Bloggers of all countries, unite!
I don't believe he was refering to Hunter S. Thompson, although I had to look twice myself.
LOL...
Localman, you are correct.
That would be FRED THOMPSON and DUNCAN HUNTER. (GOP Presidential hopefuls and my pick for the ticket.)
SourGrapes, lets be honest...
Nixon opened talks/trade relations with China. (He was a lot of things, but traitor wasnt one of them.)
The Clintons opened up our national security pantry for them to shop in. (Missile/Nuclear/dual use technology)
Big difference.
And I wouldnt dream of calling myself any rank in the "blog police". BlogNazi, maybe...lol...or maybe even BigBlogBrother. (Of course keeping with your "comrade"/socialist train of thought with a little Orwell thrown in for good measure...LOL.)
Thanks for the blog support. I have often wondered when Trigg is going to offer me some "incentive" (i.e. CASH) for bringing traffic to her site...LOL.
Hello? I believe Grapes was being ironic. That's what makes it funny.
You boys keep it civil, though. As a wiser man than myself once said, "You trade paint one more time, you so much as touch, I'm gonna Black Flag the two of you, and tear apart your racecars for three-hundred laps."
Riddle me this -- who was that wise man?
Wally -
A sports-type question? Let me try this again (Say it with me slowly):
s-p-o-r-t-s...b-o-r-e...m-e. (Especially NASCAR or anything related to NASCAR.)
And we could play quotable quotes all day and it would be just as tiresome as reading/remarking about the fascinating world of doilies. (Seriously - there has only been one comment on that blog...)
(Buzz!)Sorry Wally, the judges say no. But thanks for playing. We do have some lovely parting gifts for you! Gene, tell him what he's won...(LOL)
It's not a sports question, you tiresome little man.
The correct answer is none other than your beloved Mr. Thompson. It's back in the days when he was a b-list actor rather than a b-list politician.
Wally-
It is a sports question. It is a direct reference to NASCAR racing, regardless of who said it, when, or why.
"tiresome little man"?? Is that the best you can come up with Wally? LOL. My five-year-old daughter is wittier than that.
And Thompson isnt a "b-list actor", he is a character actor, and a former senator.
Just what have you done that is so impressive, Wally? Are you an elected office-holder?
That's right Wally, Thompson isn't a b-list actor; he's more of a c-list actor. Character actor implies he has range, which he does not. Thompson is the biggest joke in this collection of misfits. He has shown repeatedly he's not in it for the long haul. He's campaigned half-heartedly the whole time and has proven he's in it to shake things up and nothing more. Not a bad thing, but his chances of winning the Presidency or an Academy Award are exactly the same; zero.
Joker -
And just how many movies have you been in?
Fred Thompson - while not exactly the greatest actor is a solid actor portraying the roles that he is usually cast for. (And if you didnt know - he didnt go to Hollywood, it came to him.)
As for his Presidential bid - what appears to you to be half-hearted attempt I see as a positive change in the way campaigns should be run. I will let Thompson's record and his views be a guide as whether I should support him.
He has said himself that he is in it for the long haul, but that he doesnt covet the job of President (unlike Hillary and many others). To him, if he wins, great. If not, its not the end of the world. (You should be wary of anyone that craves the power of the Presidency as much as Hillary does.)
I (unlike a lot of the country) do not base my political opinions on the mass media, where ALL networks refuse to give any coverage to Duncan Hunter (and very little to Thompson), however they dance w/delight at getting a few minutes with Ron Paul, Huckabee, Romney, Guiliani and McCain. These 5 candidates wouldnt get my vote for city council, much less the Presidency. (Paul has some good ideas, but sucks on foreign policy, and the other four may call themselves Republicans, but they are not conservatives. They are a bunch of pandering, open-border-supporting, half-libs that run as Republicans as a matter of expediency and not because of values.)
Joker - you are probably a Kucinich guy, arent you?
Actually I was in my fifth grade play. I was awesome.
Do I need to be in a movie to adequately judge whether an actor is good or not? If someone plays mainly one type of character, that shouldn't be too impressive unless you have the personality of cardboard.
I am not a Kucinich man by any means. I want a candidate who does want the job though. Someone who doesn't act as if they are running for student council like Thompson does.
Thompson had an opportunity to campaign in New Hampshire and make progress but instead went on the Tonight Show. Great move.
I will tip my hat to Thompson for talking of things people should be talking about but if people would do more searching on their own instead of relying on persons in power to spoon-feed them knowledge, we'd all be better off. Not even you could disagree with that; but you probably will.
You said you don't base your political opinions on the mass media. Then what do you base them on? Where do you get your secret knowledge?
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Joker -
Re: actors...everyone is a critic.
Did you know that George Washington didnt want the job? He was talked into it.
The problem w/New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, and all these "barometer" primaries and caucuses is that they are all "Bravo Sierra" (B.S.) What we need is a more balanced primary system. And I didnt see anything wrong w/going on a late night show. He probably reached a lot more people, on both sides of the aisle, than he would've by campaigning in a state that actually has relatively few delagates and is only "important" (per the conventional wisdom) b/c of the fact that they are one of the earliest primaries.
And yes - we do share some common ground in wanting people to actually be informed voters rather than being spoonfed sugar-coated sh*t and then being told it tastes good.
I dont base it solely on mass media. If the candidates are on a show, I will watch & listen. (Taking into consideration the demographics of the target audience.) Otherwise, I have some dependable internet sources, for starters. There are lots of places to find information - including government websites (for those running that are/were in office).
As for MLK Jr Day - I will pass. I dont acknowledge it. Did you realize that with the exception of Christmas and Good Friday (for Jesus - so much for the lib exaltation of the mythical "separation of church and state"), there is only one other National Holiday that is dedicated to one man? That would be Columbus Day. I dont think that what MLK did was nearly as significant as what Columbus did. (For the record, I dont celebrate Columbus Day either.)
So Long, Fred, it was nice knowing you...
Hold on, everyone!! The GOP is about to make a huge lurch to the LEFT...
Guess he wasn't in it for the long haul after all. Too bad. The left as never looked so good. Two wrongs definitely points to the right.
With Hunter and Thompson gone, who will pick up the slack? I guess you'll have to pin your hopes on Giuliani.
Joker-
Bwa-ha-ha-haaaaaa!!!!
I will withhold my vote before I vote for Giuliani, or McCain, or Huckabee. (Its a matter of principle.)
I could possibly hold my nose and vote for Romney, but I doubt it. (Those pesky principles again.)
I will probably vote for Ron Paul (as a protest vote supporting a Constitutionalist) in the primaries if possible.
Otherwise, I will forego the presidential ballot and focus my energies and efforts at re-taking Congress.
