The Dangers of Texting

I have started to really like text messaging.

My friend Emily (who has been my bestie since 1978) and I have the same quirky, offbeat sense of humor. When once of us sees something she finds funny, she can text the other and share without having to have a full-fledged conversation. Just today, she saw a funny bumper sticker and texted me about it.

I will often let my 17-year-old daughter know I'm thinking about her via text. I like that I'm able to wish her luck on tests or tell her I love her when the mood strikes.

Like most couples, my husband and I both work. He's a journalist too, so we work crazy hours and sometimes go without seeing each other for pretty long stretches of time. We still really like each other, and we've taken to texting each other little loves notes here and there throughout the day.

This was not a problem until I started working at the Banner.

You see, my husband's name is Andy, and my assistant editor's name is Adam. They are one right after the other in my cell phone contacts list.

This morning, I almost inadvertently sent Adam a text message meant for Andy that Adam probably wouldn't have wanted to read. It wasn't racy or anything, at least not for two people who are married.

But getting it from his editor may have caused poor Adam to have a mild embolism.

It got me wondering if any of you have stories about texts or e-mails sent to the wrong people. Anyone care to share?

I've not gotten the Texting bug I supose. I would just as soon call teh person as Text them.

On the Internet I do tent to use instant messengers but even then I usually preferVoice chat when posible. However I have been none to send messages to the wrong people on occasion. It usually happens when I'm trying to talk to multiple people at once.

I was going to stay with my cousin (Mikey) in Cincinnati and meant to text him "Can I still stay at your place tonight?" and accidently sent it to my old boss, named Mikey. He never responded.

ill tell you what. i was at pre-mobilization training about 3 months ago before i shipped out for iraq and i would text my girlfriend every hour and we would have conversations and make plans for her to come to mississippi during my 4-day pass to see me off. my dad couldnt make it cause his position at work wouldnt allow it. understandable. but i sent him a message on accident thinking he was ashley(my girlfriend) telling him that i couldnt wait to see him on my 4 day pass. im sure it made him feel horrible to think that i expected him to come when he couldnt, i know he really wanted to be there to support me. but anyways it was an arkward position for me, as well as my dad, to be in. but i laugh about it now. oh yeah and yahoo messenger will get you too. when you are talking to more than one person and you forget to click over and reply to a message. you accidently send the responce to the wrong contact. it throws them off. i prolly dont make any sence but i know what im talking about lol. nice blog anyways. i know exactly what you mean
