My Dog Has Fleas

I'm serious.

As I wrote about Bella a couple of weeks ago, I would like to introduce you to Bruiser, my miniature Jack Russell Terrier, and ask ... no, beg ... for suggestions about a problem we're having.

Bruiser has fleas. A lot of them. I have never had these problems with him before. I don't know if it's because we lived on a wooded lot now or what, but my poor baby dog keeps getting these nasty bugs.

I've tried bathing him with flea soap, powders, sprays, and flea collars. Nothing works. He's digging at himself so much that he has an open sore on his back ... and I don't know what to do about that, either.

I've heard the Frontline stuff is good, but having never been under flea siege before, I don't know what to do. Does that have any bad effects? My dog weighs all of 11 pounds, and I'm leery of subjecting him to harsh pesticides.

It seems like whatever I do gets rid of the fleas for a day or two, but then they come back. I feel so bad for him.

Does anyone know of any home remedies for fleas that might work for my puppy?

After you vaccume, be sure to throw the bag away and burn it. Those little buggers can crawl right back out.

Jamie....I also have a little JR....try apple cider vinegar, I haven't seen a flea on him all summer. He gets a bath about every 10-14 days.

Be careful with over the counter flea meds, my dog (and a friends dog) both had REALLY bad reactions to them. Best thing is to get meds from vet and BOMB your house with flea bombs. Good luck.

I use the Hartz Gold flea drops on my dog and another kind of drop on my cat. I've been using them for about 9 months and haven't seen a flea or had my animals scratching.

You might have to treat your yard also.

And vacuuming..lots and lots of vacuuming.
