Takin' one for the teamPosted Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 10:21 PM
The cost of living is rising.
Like I'm telling you something you don't know. Anyway, it's getting to the point where going to the grocery store is downright painful. The prices are outrageous, but food is a place ... at Chez Barrand, at least ... where cutting back is hard. We get used to certain types of things, and it's hard to downgrade. For instance, I don't think we could convince my son that cheap macaroni and cheese was the same or better than the Kraft he is used to. On our last trip to the grocery this past weekend, my husband had the box of generic pizza rolls in his hand for a minute, but couldn't go through with it. He put them back and got the familiar yellow bag of Jeno's he always gets, even though they were $2 more expensive. So the men in my life can continue to have their favorite things, I took one for the team. Yep, I'm the martyr this time. I'm using cheap shampoo and conditioner. At least for the time being, I have given up Dove hair care products, which I loved everything about, and switched to the 88 cents a bottle stuff. My hair doesn't behave as well or look as good as it did when I was using Dove. It takes me a lot longer in the morning to get it to look presentable, because it's drier that it was when I was using Dove and has a lot less shine. I've gone back to wearing a lot of headbands and ponytails to hide my less-than-lustrous tresses. To help, I've started braiding my hair at night when I wash it so it's still a little damp when I straighten it in the morning. But you know, when my boys are happy, I'm happy. I can deal with this. Ah, the things we do for love. |
