And we're off!Posted Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at 10:04 PM
Tomorrow morning, my husband, son and I will take off for three fun-filled days in Spencer County, most of which we will spend in Santa Claus.
We have a really busy itinerary planned. We're visiting the Lincoln Boyhood National Museum and Living Historical Farm, as well as the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Plaza, Lincoln Pioneer Village and Lincoln Amphitheatre. We're going to Santa's Lodge, the Santa Claus Museum and Santa's Candy Castle. There's a drive-in theater in the area, and we're planning to take in a movie there. I have great memories of my mom and dad taking us to the drive-in wearing our pajamas (I saw such classics as "Convoy" and "E.T." at the drive-in). Of course, we plan on spending some time at Holiday World and Splashin' Safari, and we want to either take a cave tour or canoe trip at Marengo Cave and Country Canoes. We're staying one night at the Lake Rudolph RV Resort one night and Leavenworth Inn the next. As I looked at the brochures for the places we wanted to go on our short little getaway, I was struck by how much Indiana has to offer. For many years, I lived in lake country up north. I spend a lot of time in Fort Wayne, which is where my husband grew up and where his family still lives. Now I live near Indianapolis, a town I adore. I am excited about seeing a part of Indiana I've never seen before. I've lived in the Hoosier State for 12 years, and it amazes me that there is still so much of it that's new to me. Each county is like a different world here. This is really a special state. I plan on doing a travel log here over the next few days, complete with photos. Check it out! |
