Gourmet Candy Canes, Three Shot Glasses and a White Teddy Bear

When I said yesterday that I'd be sunburned today, I guess I didn't expect it to rain and not break 65 degrees. Despite the gray skies and less-than-warm temperatures, my boys and I braved Holiday World today. I didn't get to ride any of the roller coasters because they're wimps, but we had fun anyway. We checked out of the RV and had breakfast at Santa's Lodge. After that, we trekked down the road to Santa's Candy Castle. What a cool place that was! Will was able to chat on the Internet with an elf named Benson via the North Pole Network. After Benson asked Will some questions, Will was approved for Santa's "Nice List," and even got a certificate to prove it. We bought some Christmas ornaments and gourmet candy canes, and tried some iced hot chocolate (their specialty). After we were done there, we stopped in at the Santa Claus Museum, which has displays of all kinds of old Christmas decorations. I was amazed at how many items there we had had in my house growing up. It was really neat, and I got my second shot glass of the trip (I collect them) there. I also got one yesterday at the Lincoln Amphitheatre. Then we were off the Holiday World. It rained a light mist most of the morning, but we rode rides anyway. Will liked things he could drive ... things like the antique cars and the bumper cars. The wildest thing I got him on was the Turkey Whirl ... Holiday World's version of the classic Tilt-A-Whirl, with cars shaped like turkeys. Will said they should have called it the Turkey Hurl, because it made him dizzy. We played games, and Will proved to have the best luck. He decided to play the duck pond game. The ducks had an S, M or L on the bottom, which determined the size of the prize. Will plucked an "L" from the pond, and got himself a fuzzy, white teddy bear of good size. On the way out, I picked up a third shot glass. After dinner at the Cracker Barrel, we're at the Leavenworth Inn, a gorgeous bed and breakfast on the banks of the Ohio River. We're in a suite, which is nice because Will has his own TV and space. I spent an hour soaking in the oversized tub ... I could have slept in there. Tomorrow we're spelunking at Marengo Caves before heading home. Should be a good time. |
