A Dream Come True

My son, my mother-in-law and I were all the recipients of Snuggies this past Christmas.

After two years of wanting one, I finally got a Snuggie this past Christmas.

You've seen the commercial -- the Snuggie, the blanket with sleeves. While I would never wear one to a sporting event or on as plane as is depicted in the commercial, I became obsessed with having one for cuddling up on my couch at home. They just looked so cozy and the people on TV seemed to be enjoying them so much.

I guess advertising works.

Anyway, we spend Christmas Day at my in-laws' place, and there are quite a lot of us, so a few years ago we decided it made far more sense to draw names than to buy gifts for everyone. When we put our names on the slips of paper for the drawing, we write down a few suggestions for gifts.

Last year not only did I write a Snuggie down on my slip of paper, I also talked incessantly about Snuggies so that whoever had my name (we don't reveal who chose whom until Christmas) would understand how much I wanted one; that I wasn't kidding.

I didn't get one. My mother-in-law picked my name and got candles for me, which was fantastic because I love them, but still a little disappointing because they weren't a Snuggie.

My husband also refused to get me one, claiming they were "ridiculous," and that if I was cold I should just put on a sweater like normal people.

When we drew names again this past Thanksgiving, I figured I'd give it one more try, and put a Snuggie on my slip of paper.

When Christmas rolled around, it was revealed that Andy's paternal grandmother, Gramma B., was my Secret Santa. There were three boxes for me, along with a gift bag.

The gift bag contained a new laptop case. Fantastic! The first box was a pair of leopard print slippers. Love slippers! The second box contained a Colts sweatshirt. Woo-hoo!

Then I started opening the last box ... and knew before the paper was off what it was.

A Snuggie! And not just a Snuggie, a leopard print Snuggie (the slippers matched!).

We were together at last, my Snuggie and me. My mother-in-law and son also received Snuggies. My son was pretty excited about his; my mother-in-law wasn't sure.

But I love mine. It's everything I thought it would be and more. I use it everyday. My son and I eat our cereal in the morning wrapped in them. At night when I'm settling down and getting ready to go to bed, I spend some time watching TV or working on my computer under it.

My only complaint is that having the Snuggie sometimes makes it hard to get going.

I think it has some sort of magical powers.
