Spring Break Comes EarlyPosted Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:24 PM
Spring break arrived a few days early in our household. My sister, who is a senior at South Putnam High School, left this morning with her friend for a seven-day trip.
Instead of heading south like the rest of their peers, they headed west to California. A relative of ours, who was brave enough to take on two teenage girls for the week, will provide entertainment. What my sister may not realize is it's our spring break, too. While she is off in Cali, I am going hiking. This leaves our parents with their first taste of an "empty nest." Yes, I said hiking. Three blissful days of the rugged outdoors is exactly what I need to take me away. I will not be packing make-up, high heels or even a curling iron. It will be fabulous. Instead of waking up to a blaring television, doors slamming and people yelling, it will be nature sounds such as birds chirping. However, should I wake up to the sound of rainfall, it is still better than the alternative. Once I return from the woods, it will back to writing and deadlines. In my opinion, your sister and her friend got the better end of the spring break vacation.
