Battleship is awesome.

It's filled with memorable scenes, moments and action sequences.

The dialogue is cheesy but never forced.

It's got tons of sweet explosions.

The female lead is busty blessed with numerous qualities that exude a strong and confident character, while simultaneously imposing an important presence in the overall plot and in capturing scenes with charisma and performance*.

There are a number of lines of dialogue that cause both laughs and chills.

Each scene helps build to the final climactic battle.

It is the fantastic combination of U-571, Snakes on a Plane and Independence Day.

It was a perfect movie to see during my guys weekend.

My buddy Shawn came down from Michigan to hang out for a few days. It was a good time. I hadn't seen him since the fall**.

We drank a little beer, played a little pool at the Tap, watched violent movies, played violent video games and ate unhealthy food.

I learned a few things: 1) I'm getting old. 2) I still like my old friends. 3) Peter Berg should direct every big-budget action movie that is made for the next 30 years***.

Berg did a phenomenal job crafting the plot, foreshadowing without beating you over the head, showcasing the action from wide enough angles that you could tell what is going on****.

He also created an excellent ensemble cast that featured few stars but several actors that were perfect***** for their role.

I left the movie thinking it was the most fun I'd had watching a movie in the theatre since . . .

And I couldn't think of anything.

The Dark Knight? Iron Man? S.O.A.P.?

I'm a simple guy. I like things that make me happy. I dislike things that make me sad. Being sad is the worst thing to be******.

Battleship made me happy. Plus I got to hang out with my buddy Shawn. Good weekend, that was.

(*) She is busty.

(**) The last time we had a guys weekend was during football season. On Saturday and Sunday we watched football. On Friday we watched Eclipse. That was not as good.

(***) Unless Stallone wants to do a few.

(****) Unlike some people who ruin what should be extremely entertaining movies with shots that are so tight on the action it is nauseating and makes it impossible to figure out what is going on.

(*****) Read: very busty.

(******) I apologize for being so insightful this far into the post.
