Logged in and long gone

When I first joined the Banner Graphic staff a few months back, I had an awfully big seat to fill. Not big in stature, so much, but big in history. Numerous former staffers have sat at my desk and, much to my surprise, they left the computer signed in to numerous websites.

Amanda left her Pandora signed on. (Thanks for the free access to "Backstreet Boys Radio," Amanda! Even though I've never met you, I feel like I know you.)

Maribeth left her Amazon account signed in. I'm not planning on ordering anything for her, but she might be asking herself a few questions when she looks at her recently viewed history.

This got me thinking, what is the most annoying possible website to have someone else log on under your name and use? I'm not talking about fraud or criminal activity. I'm excluding this list to, how annoyed would I be?

After surveying the entire newsroom on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. (read: myself), and a plea to my followers on Twitter (all 7 of them, 0 responses) I came up with this list. Enjoy!

Hulu -- If someone watched half of an episode of Chopped, then I signed in to watch the same episode of Chopped only to discover that it started me in the middle, I would not be pleased. Still, most of Chopped is pretty boring. I want to watch panic and cooking and judging. I don't care about people talking amongst themselves about what a good job they did dumping puddles of blue water on top of their white triangle plate.

Paypal -- Really more of a legal problem than an annoying one. Of course it would be "annoying" for someone to steal from you, that annoyance wouldn't be at the top of your concerns.

Youtube -- How could this be annoying, you (hypothetically) ask? I don't know. Maybe they like videos that you don't like and they wind up on your favorites section? Or something?

10: Message Board -- NOBODY better go on my Tim Tebow message board and post an anti-Tebow comment with my screen name.

9. Blogger -- Hacker 1: "You know what would be funny? If I went on to someone elses blog and made a fake blog entry about how annoying it would be if someone went on to their blog and made a fake blog entry." Hacker 2: "Whoa. That's so meta."

8. eBay -- Annoying, certainly, but unless they were bidding for something at the very last minute, you would probably have a few days to correct the error.

7. Netflix -- Imagine if someone started rating movies for you, and the uber-cool "Grant's Picks" section ended up looking more like the uber-lame "Caine's Picks" section. Nobody wants that to happen to them.

6. Email -- The intrusion that best combines professional and personal annoyance. The damage would likely be fairly limited (Is it funny to delete someone's old emails? Because if it is I don't get it).

5. Amazon.com -- Can you imagine the frustration you would feel if someone decided to add this or this to your wish list? The horror.

4. Facebook -- The most complete profile of you online. Friends on Facebook can see the true you. Of course it would be annoying if someone was logging in on your account. But what real harm would be done? Most of your friends wouldn't even notice. How many people really have all of your actions pop up on their feed? Even if someone went on and left obscene or crazy status messages, most of your friends would know it was a joke and/or assume you'd been hacked.

3. Pandora -- We had issues with this here in the newsroom a few weeks ago. When Jared came into the office one morning and discovered Lauren had added "Justin Bieber Radio" to his account, he responded . . . poorly.

2. Fantasy baseball/football site -- What if they got on and benched your team in the middle of the week and you forgot to check it, costing you a key victory? Even worse, what if they dropped a real player and picked up a crummy one?

1. Twitter -- Although this is a less complete view of your life than Facebook, and, in many ways, Pandora, it would be much more annoying. Here's why: Everything you say on Twitter goes to every one of your followers. They all voluntarily chose to listen to your every word and thought. Now they are stuck, forced to read all of your hacked tweets. Plus the invader could follow and unfollow people without you knowing. How long would it take you to notice that @aplusk's fascinating life was no longer appearing on your feed? How annoying would it be if you were suddenly forced to read @RealGilbert's horrible jokes?

So annoying.

Any additions from you, my friendly, non-hacking readers? I assume I left something obvious off the list entirely. And that's kinda frustrating.
