Clean Sheet DayPosted Friday, September 7, 2012, at 3:56 PM
Sure, it's nice to get a three-day weekend, but for me, Monday is the day I do laundry. That may not sound great as doing laundry is tedious and boring and in no way fun, but that means something magical. Monday is the day I get clean sheets on my bed. Clean Sheet Day is (far too often) the best part of my week. Clean Sheet Day is a wonderful, glorious day. All is right with the world when I lay in bed and my pillows smell like Downy and I can drift to sleep without any concern that I'm laying in a pile of my own dried spittle. But when a holiday (I'm looking at you, Labor Day) falls on a Monday, that means I can't buy quarters, which means I can't do laundry, which means I don't get to experience Clean Sheet Day. And that basically ruins my whole month. I'm writing this on a Friday, which this week doubles as Clean Sheet Day. And that's wonderful and glorious and everything else. But I could have had this experience a few days ago. I wanted to do laundry on Monday, but there were no banks open, so I couldn't buy quarters. Then I was busy on Tuesday, got cash on Wednesday, and bought quarters to (finally) do laundry on Thursday. So how does that ruin my month? The problem is that now my options are either to start doing laundry on Thursdays (which is not ideal because I don't have a set schedule), or to work my way back toward Monday, one day at a time. But that can't work. I can't really do laundry next Monday, since I won't enough to make it worth while, and I really don't think 4 days is enough reason to clean sheets (although it would be awesome). So the other option is to do a wash next Friday, and the Saturday after that, and so on, until a month from now I'm back on schedule. But that means that each week, for the next month, Clean Sheet Day gets delayed by an entire day. Instead of getting Clean Sheet Day every seven days, it has to be every eight days, which is horrible. And I have to deal with it for a month! I suppose I could just make a one-time delay of 11 days, but that would be even worse. And it's all the fault of having a holiday fall on a Monday. You knew the holiday was coming up. Why didn't you get your quarters ahead of time?
I had half of a roll left from the last time, which I mistakenly thought would be enough, so the week before I didn't stop at the bank to get any.
