One is not so lonely a number

One of my personal hobbies is cooking; every new recipe and idea is a mini adventure on its own. Sometimes it turns out great, other times not so much. Lately though my cooking has been tone down a bit just because I don't have anyone to enjoy my little adventures with.

Back home there usually someone over at my apartment. Whether it was: my roommate and I hanging out, someone over in between any given activity or if a group of us were hanging out after said activities. That meant I always had someone to cook for or try a new drink with me. I miss it, but I have slowly embracing cooking for one also.

I'd make soups, homemade bread, spaghetti with bolognese, chocolate chip cookies by the dozens and taco nights (a specialty of mine) I always felt like that Italian grandmother telling people they were to skinny and needed to eat more. I blame my mother fully on that one (don't get me wrong that's one of my favorite traits about her, she taught me how to cook and how rewarding it was to cook for a group of friends and family).

When people would be over I would try at least one daring recipe, but then I'd pair it with some tamer things. Now though I've been experimenting more and more with recipes and ingredients. It's just as rewarding when something comes out right or is surprisingly different and delicious as it was cooking for a group.

Another thing that I have had to learn is to cut down on quantity, its either that or I have leftovers for about a month (learned that the hard way with a pot of soup).

Cooking for one seemed lonely at first, but I feel like I'm growing as a cook. And that is a fantastic feeling.
