A touch of grey (or what's on my mind this week)
This week's blog post is different in that I don't have a set thought or event to talk about.
Some noteworthy things have happened up to today. Last Saturday, The United States Senate lost its "maverick" senator with the death of John McCain. Here in town, Tzouanakis Intermediate School has been closed because a festering mold problem, prompting school administrators to relocate classes to other Greencastle school buildings.
On the more positive side, Greencastle demonstrated just how hip it has become with the ninth annual Greencastle Music Fest on the square. Per a story that I am currently working on, Greencastle will also soon be featured in a very unique competition (think "The Amazing Race," but with film), inspired by the work of a leader in the community.
I myself have been relatively unproductive. Today will (hopefully) be devoted to catching up on writing that story, which I have been trying to get together since last Friday.
Today also represents a milestone of sorts for me. On this day a year ago, I interviewed for my first job as a proofreader with a company in Wheeling, West Virginia. It was the beginning of an interesting chapter in my life after college. After living there two months and not really fitting in, I entered into one of the most formative periods of my life. I learned a lot of lessons about personal responsibility and trusting your gut.
I am always trying to look forward to bigger and better things. As such, I am excited to follow a venture I know will put Greencastle and its surroundings on the map. I just have to find the enthusiasm to break through my writer's block.
As I sit writing this, there is a touch of grey in the sky. It just feels like a slow day, and not just because we don't have a deadline today. But I have to get busy. Getting something done is better than getting nothing done at all.
I know that this post has had no set idea, and that bothers me slightly. But sometimes, being a little non sequitur is a good thing.
As such, I will leave you with this gem from the Grateful Dead. Happy Hump Day.
