Remembering our military personnel

Friday was the anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and like it often does, it passed by quietly, without a lot of play in the national media.
With that in mind, I just wanted to take a few moments to pay tribute, and to thank, the men and women who have served our country in the military, both past and present. Whether you support or oppose our nation's current involvement in the Middle East, I hope you take the time on this anniversary of Pearl Harbor to remember your family members or friends who have served or to thank a military person when you meet him or her on the street. Unfortunately, as time goes by and the number of World War II veterans continues to decline, the history fades a little more every year. I hope we don't forget it. When I think of the world wars, I can't help but be drawn to the memory of my own family members who have served. My grandfather proudly served in the Eighth Army Air Corp during World War II and his father, my great-grandfather, fought in World War I. My own father completed his service in Vietnam. I also have a great-uncle, on my mom's side of the family, who was called away to serve in Holland during World War II but, sadly, never came home. His photograph, still inside its original cardboard sleeve, is something to be treasured. If you have a family member who you would like to pay tribute to, this is the place. I am proud to say that I have a 23yr. old grandson that is serving in the US ARMY.He is presently in Kuwait. I also have two great-nephews serving in the military, one in the ARMY and one in the NAVY. And I am very proud of them all. I had two brothers and three brothers-in-law that served in the NAVY in the Korean War and one brother-in-law that was in the ARMY at the same time. One of my sons served 3years in the AIR FORCE. I am truly proud of them all also. You go, guys and gals... Git R Done......
Thanks for reminding us to remember all those who have and are currently serving in the US Military. I have abiding memories of many of those 'citizen soldiers' Stephen Ambrose and Ernie Pyle shared with us in their writings. Remaining too are the memories of many a GI Joe I recall from my own experiences in a far away place called Cu Chi, South Vietnam. Thanks for being a proud American and a treasured son. Dad
thanks so much for caring. times and our culture have changed, and not for the better in my view. we are certainly not one nation under God and indivisible any more, and politics does not stop at the waters edge anymore either. america, she was good while she lasted.
