Asst. Supt. Brad Phillips is in the bucket truck with Doug Sosbe, Ricky Long, Mark Dickerson and Matt Jordan helping with the project. The canopy lights will be rolled onto wooden spools and stored.

The "Canopy of Lights" on the Greencastle square has come down, Dept. of Public Works Supt. Paul Wilson announced Friday.

He told the BannerGraphic Thursday that inclement weather since Christmas, including pounding rain, hail, snowstorms and an 80-mph windstorm, have hampered efforts to take down the lights that draped the courthouse.

Overnight Thursday, street crews took the lights down, but the lights on the trees around the square remain.

Volunteers from the community are being sought to help take down the white lights from the trees around the square. To volunteer, call attorney Sharon Hammond at 653-2451.

Don't mean to sound like a Scrooge, but if you can't take the lights down in a timely manner, don't put them up to begin with.

There, do you feel better now? Maybe you should go help take down the lights so that it could be done in a more timely manner?
