The sun has set over 'Survivor' Bay

Everyone is familiar with the old saying, "All good things must come to an end."
Why then have the producers of 'Survivor' -- a worthless parade of flesh and fights -- allowed it to continue for 16 seasons? I came across a story today about Jeff Probst, the show's host since the beginning, and he said he thought the show would last no more than three seasons. If only he would have been right. "We go back to the start, every season," the host told the Associated Press. "There have been variations (like the current "Fans vs. Favorites" format). "But we don't deviate too far from the original premise." No kidding. And that's why I quit watching 10 seasons ago. Every season is the same: the bold and beautiful model types come on and, "Oh, I just can't possibly help build the shelter today because I might get a scratch or strain my beautiful muscles." Then there are the ones who do little to help but act like they do everything and criticize everyone else for not doing enough. You also have the ones who actually do, do something -- everything in fact -- and what happens to them at the end of the first for second episode? Jeff tells them "the tribe has spoken" and they get their flame extinguished. A lot like life isn't it? The people who are doing the real work are mistreated and despised by the ones who do little or nothing. So back to my original point: why do we have to eat up prime time with this season after season after season? If you want to see a REAL reality show, watch "The Amazing Race." It's actually different every episode and you learn something new about the "real" world every time you watch it. There's no sitting around a campfire in the jungle and picking each other apart for weeks on end. You don't have time for much drama when you're chasing down camels in the Sahara on Monday and climbing the Alps in Switzerland on Tuesday. OK, all you Survivor lovers, shoot back your comments. What makes it so wonderful? Why is it the grand Pooh Bah of reality TV shows? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Whoever coined the term "reality" tv anyway? After all it IS television.
It doesn't get any better then watching people trying to "survive" by building shelter, finding food, or doing the challenges for rewards. I can sit at home eating my doritos and yell at the t.v. .....I can do better than that....not.
But it does make you think, if you were stranded somewhere even in the mountains for a short period of time, could you survive the time you cut off from your friends and family. The elements such as rain or snow, heat during the day and cold at night. Could you find enough food to keep your strength up and mind clear?
I like to think natural instinct would kick in at a time of need like being lost while hikeing through a wilderness out west somewhere , hope I never have to find out.
I enjoyed the first one I saw (Outback) and I liked the Pirate one just because that one guy looked like Blackbeard.
Tehre have been 16 of them? Good grief.
Oh and I agree with your remarks concerning the Amazing Race. There is no silly voting off or whatever. If you come in last you lose. Not that I watch it very often but on the occasions I do watch it It's still interesting mid-season.
It's not Reality in any case. It's a glorified Game Show.
