Good job to Roachdale and its citizens for an All-American good time at Saturday's Summerfest parade. I attended and enjoyed seeing everyone in and out of the parade. Everyone sitting near me was very excited and I heard no complaints. As always, the kids had a blast. That goes for the ones scooping up armloads of candy from the sidelines and the youngsters in the parade itself. Some of the kids throwing candy had good arms. Let me tell you. It was downright dangerous sitting on the curb next to the street (ha ha). Anyway, I just thought it was a great time and congratulations to all those who put it together. It looks like you got the ball rolling again. In this day and age, it's nice to see these types of small-town traditions being kept alive ... and in the case of Roachdale ... resurrected. I'm sure next year will be even better. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I would have to agree, (for the most part anyway). We had a wonderful time and we appreciated everything that was put into it. It was great to see how many people participated in the festivities and the organization. The fish fry on Friday night was a huge success. We waited in line for about an hour and we even came later than when it started. The parade was very neat for such a small town!
Now here is a part that I thought needs some better work and more attention to for next year. After the parade we did attend the kid games behind the library. We have a 2 year old that was extremly excited to be involved with the kids and the games. I do have to say the games were very appropriate for the kids however, the people involved doing the games (which I believe was the Roachdale Christian Church) need better manners. Well at one particular station they told her she couldn't play because she already played it once. For goodness sake there was like 5 games. My daughter could care less for the candy she just wanted to play the games. She wasn't going to take more candy and there wasn't a line of people waiting to play the game, she just thought it was cool seeing the little ducks float and that you could pick them up and see a number underneath it. After they made her cry we left immediatly! So I hope more time and direction will be focused on the game section next year.
I would love to be involved next year, I'm planning on contacting someone to get more information. Overall thank you to those who did such hard work! Ready for next year!
