Summer is fleeting. Have some lemonadePosted Thursday, August 21, 2008, at 11:59 PM
Does anyone remember the old Country Time Lemonade commercials? They always started with a soft-spoken narrator reminding us that the warm, sunny days of summer are fleeting and we should all take time to enjoy a nice, tall glass of lemonade? They usually showed someone walking on top of fence or riding a bike off into the sunset -- just because.
They always made me feel sad to think of how quickly summer passes, yet they are a good reminder to us all that indeed we should take time to appreciate the season. Whether it's sitting on your front-porch swing drinking a tall glass of lemonade or walking beside a cornfield and taking in the smell: enjoy the remaining days of summer. Ride a bike. Take a walk. Go camping. Anything. But do something. Speaking of the cornfields. Someone very special in my life once told me that you can actually hear the corn growing in the field. You know something? I think he was right. Something else I enjoy doing is listening to the insects in the trees at night. Isn't that such a magical sound? It's also neat to be outside with the full moon above and look out across the fields and watch the mysterious haze rising into the air. And what about the haunting screech of a distant owl? The rolling thunder of a distant thunderstorm? The soft chirps of the birds at sunrise? I hope that when you see and hear these things, you're like me and it blows your mine. This world in which we live is truly an amazing place. We only have a month left of summer, so get out and enjoy it. It'll be another year before it comes around again. Good article Adam. Too often we are caught up in "gotta be here or gotta be there, right now"! At least once a week take a bike ride or a walk with your child, I have found that my daughter will open up and talk to me more about school and her friends if we spend this quality time riding around campus or through town just enjoying each others company. A hour here or there doing this gets amazing results. Instead of plopping down on the couch grab that bike!
