Gas prices in Greencastle rose 40 cents today. They were at $3.55 a gallon on Monday and by Tuesday afternoon, many stations had jacked the price up to $3.95.

There isn't a whole lot to say about that and it certainly does no good to ask why. Hey gas companies: I've heard all your excuses and frankly I don't believe them anymore. Actually I never did.

Huricanes Ike. Trouble in the Middle East. The futures market. The War in Iraq. All reasons for higher prices, right? Baloney. Baloney. Baloney.

But what can we do about it? We're just a bunch of stupid citizens who have no choice but to buy the fuel at these prices. If there was a way to protest, I'd be right there to sign up and so would millions of other Americans.

I bought a car that gets 30 or more miles to the gallon, but every week I meet hundreds of gas-guzzling pick-up trucks and SUV's barreling down the road like gas is still 95 cents a gallon. And most of them are usually in my trunk. Why don't you slow down? You WILL notice the difference in your gasoline bill.

Oh and if John McCain or Barack Obama say they're going to fix the problem … sure. What a joke! And they're going to make America loved by all the world. Yes, and they're going to unite conservatives and liberals and fix problems with Social Security, and … Zzzzzzz.

As a member of the younger generation of Americans, I've always valued my right to vote, and I still do. But the politics in Washington, I do not.

Frankly, it stinks and it's getting worse. Business as usual just doesn't work anymore. When are Pelosi, Bush and all the other talking heads in Washington going to get that? Never.

When the older generation of politicians finally retire, what kind of a future does my generation, and the ones below me, have? I just shutter to think.

A boycott won't cost the oil companies a dime because the demand is still there. That is, those who don't fill up today will fill up tomorrow.

However, I support the idea of a boycott. Since the feds collect twice as much in taxes as the oil companies earn in revenue, notice I didn't say profit, the real squealing will come from Washington.

We need to get everyone to fill up, and then stop buying fuel for a week. The feds will blow through the windfall within minutes, and be destitute the next day.

I read that if consumers would come together and not buy gas for just one day in protest..that the oil companies would lose billions. We have been waiting too long for the government to step in and do something. As long as we keep paying the high prices for gas..they will keep raising the prices. It doesn't matter if we vote in a democrat or a republican as president. They know that telling us they will help lower gas prices is a way to win us over during elections and will use it to try to get our votes. Until consumers refuse to pay the prices, it will not change.

As long as energy is a political football, the government will continue to use it as one. Question: Where, exactly, in the Constitution is the specific enumerated power granting government control of energy? Education? Retirement? I just can't wait for the healthcare shortages.

The largest US oil company is Exon-Mobile, which is the worlds 13th largest, and roughly one fifth the size of number 12. While our idiots in Washington vilify our US oil companies while holding them under a governmental jack boot, the rest of the world is developing resources. Keep in mind these evil oil companies employ thousands of US workers at high wages. If you have a 401K, chances are they contribute to your retirement too.

So when a politician talks about getting "big oil", they're really "getting" US workers and you too. Meanwhile, the real big oil companies are laughing because their foreign owned.
