Something extraordinary, exciting and special happened this past weekend, and I was wondering if anyone else noticed it.
In the hustle and bustle of life, it would be easy to move through a weekend like we just had without taking notice of its beauty. Some of the most picture perfect weather happens not in the summer, but in the fall and winter. I was driving home on Sunday afternoon and was suddenly aware of the crystal-clear blue sky above and before me, contrasted by the golden waves of corn and soybeans dancing gently in the cool fall breeze. On days like this, you can toil away in the yard and scarcely break a sweat, and yet it's warm enough that you don't need a jacket. The air seems fresh and clean and the forests hint of the color that is to come. It is also during this time that the flowers seem to burst forth with added blooms as if they realize that their season will soon come to an end. And how could I fail to mention the thousands of birds that swarm the fields, I would assume in search of food as they migrate southward for the winter. As they move from field to field, they resemble giant waves on the sea, almost blocking out the sun as they whoosh past overhead. I'm amazed at how the seasons come and go in perfect rhythm. Every leaf knows when to turn. Every bird knows when to fly. Isn't it marvelous? In a time when scientists are constantly reminding us of the problems with this old world, I hope you can take a moment to appreciate it for what it is. Yes, it's imperfect, but so are we as human beings, and yet most people can find at least one person who loves and treasures them exactly as they are. I hope you find something, or someone, in this world to treasure. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

The leaves are a stage where there are hints of several different colors right know, that adds to back ground coloring.
Very well said. Reminded me of an old song by Mac Davis. "You Gotta Stop and Smell the Roses."
Man, I like your style........!!
Hi Adam,
It's your cousin Vicky. Yes, I saw it but you wrote about it so eloquently. I saw it when I drove to Bridgeton on Saturday. Fall is my favorite time of year! I also saw it in a mural when I toured the new airport terminal on Sunday. There is a huge wall mural with a scene very similar to what you described. It is made entirely of tiny mosiac tile. Each one is hand painted. If you haven't seen it yet, I hope you get a chance to very soon. Just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your article.
Love to you and your family,
Vicky
I don't quite understand that last comment, but I think you should write a book man.
