Blockbusters here I come
It looks like May is going to be my month at the movies. Being a Star Wars fan, May has always held a special place in my heart, with the entire Saga being released during this month. My wife's birthday is also in May, which is also a plus.
Three of my top four must-see movies are coming out in May, with two coming out on back-to-back Fridays. Curses!
First up will be Iron Man.
I've been a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan and it's great to see him finally back on top. I've been a borderline Iron man fan but the trailer looks terrific. A little mix of comedy along with a lot of special effects. Ah, bring on the popcorn.
Another plus for this movie is Jeff Bridges. Bridges is an actor who always delivers, especially in darker roles. He'll be playing Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger. That will more than give him the opportunity to shine. My only worry is they will rely too much on special effects and less on story. I know this might sound hypocritical from a Star Wars fan but too much CGI can take away from a movie. Trust me.
The next weekend brings us Speed Racer. It also happens to open one day before my wife's birthday, so honey if you're reading this -- Happy Birthday. I'll at least let her choose the candy for the movie as long as it's Milk Duds.
Again it was the trailer that sold me on this flick. I liked the Speed Racer cartoon but this flick looks like a mind bender. Crazy CGI environments with equally insane action will have movie geeks like myself salivating, begging for more. Also, Christina Ricci as Trixie certainly doesn't hurt things.
Last but not certainly not least is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That was even a mouthful to write. It may not be Star Wars, but I still get my George Lucas fix.
I'm a subscriber to the Indy-cast (just like the Force-cast) podcast and it gives some great info about the films. I've been listening to this and watching the previous films to get ready for the flick. I plan on being at a midnight showing, I just need to narrow down my choice of theater.
After catching the teaser trailer, one thing is apparent. Anyone who things Harrison Ford is too old to kick some tail should think again. Maybe he's not doing as many stunts as before but I'm pretty sure he could take me in an arm wrestling match.
Shia LeBeouf will be a welcomed addition to the Indiana Jones films. If you're not familiar with his acting, check out Transformer and Disturbia. I hope that the leather jacket he dons in the trailer isn't an indication that they're trying to pass him off as a tough guy. His ability to interject humor into a dramatic scene is when he's at his best.
I'm just glad that after checking out the Crystal Skull; I'll have a little more than a month to recoup before my true fascination of the summer will hit theaters -- The Dark Knight. But that's a blog for another time.
