So it ain't so Packers
I have an announcement to make -- I'm coming out of retirement. A few months ago, I turned my back on sports blogging and decided to leave that to my worthy comrade. But, I felt pressured to announce my retirement, so now I'm back.
I never thought I'd live to see the day. I've seen numerous teams use up players and throw them out with morning trash; I just never thought it would be my Packers and that player would be Brett Favre.
I know Brett's announcement left the team hanging but they knew that was an option. Favre has contemplated retirement before and made the choice to come back. Why are they acting so surprised?
Why is Ted Thompson so adamant that Favre will not be the starter? Is he more concerned with his legacy than that of the Packers? You know, in Thompson's first draft as GM, he drafted the young man who's been waiting in the shadows behind Favre. I believe he is ready to start his (Thompson) own legacy and to heck with Brett Favre. No man is bigger than the Packers, no man but himself. All he's doing is flexing his muscles, showing that he doesn't have to bow to a legend.
A great observation was made on The Sports Reports on ESPN over the weekend. The Packers will not grant Favre a release because they worry he might sign with division rival Minnesota or Chicago. If they believe he has nothing left to offer the league, why not let him go? The answer is simple -- they feel like they've been made to look like fools and they can't have that.
The Packers are in a lose lose situation. If they let Favre come back and start for the Packers, they'll have Aaron Rodgers sitting on the sidelines whining about it being "his" time. If they let him go and Rodgers falls flat on his face, Thompson and McCarthy will be looking for new jobs -- or at they least should be.
Who's to blame? Favre or the Packers? My vote is for the … Packers. I do feel that the Packers put some "friendly" pressure on Brett to hang up the cleats and that is what infuriates me the most.
You're basically telling a future hall of famer, holder of most league QB records, Super Bowl winning, league's only three time MVP, thanks for the memories and don't let the door hit you on the way out. No matter whom you cheer for, that's rotten.
I'm willing to blackout the Pack. If the Packers trade Brett to a crap team, I will not watch, listen or follow the Packers in any way, shape or form. This will actually be easier than it sounds, due to the fact our airwaves are inundated with Colts games. I'm sorry folks, but you know how I loathe that franchise.
There doesn't seem to be a way for either Brett or the Packers to come out looking very good in this circumstance. I hope this situation resolves itself as best it can, but it looks destined for a bad ending.
The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur -- Vince Lombardi

I want to see Brett in a Packer uniform but if they have planned a future without him, let him go. The only problem is that won't happen because they know if he goes to a division rival and beats them, they will end up looking like fools.
