What a "Great" Monday

Finding myself off Monday, I wanted to do something special with my two daughters. Normally I'm covering a sporting event and it's hard for me to find the time during the week to do cool little things I enjoyed as a kid.

Having seen that 'It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown' was scheduled to be on Tuesday and I would be at work, I decided to enjoy the event a night early.

I dug out the DVD, fired up the stove and pulled out a package of Jiffy Pop popcorn, much to the dismay of my oldest daughter. She was convinced that "it was going to explode", but after a few moments of reassuring her it was cool, she and my youngest settled back and watched as the tinfoil rose and the popping sounds slowed.

To avoid a fight, I sat in the middle to control the popcorn bowl, hit play on the remote and sat back to enjoy the night. I've never seen little hands move so fast. Before I knew it, half of the popcorn was gone, my Coke had been spilt and I had already gotten three kernels stuck in my teeth.

So as I'm trying to get the dog to stop enjoying my spilled beverage, my two girls sat together on the couch, popcorn bowl between them and watched in complete silence as Linus patiently awaited The Great Pumpkin, delicately plucking pieces of popcorn to enjoy.

If only every night was this perfect, if only.

I just read this blog - I love ALL the Peanuts shows, especially THE GREAT PUMPKIN!!!! How clean and simple things still are in the world of Charlie Brown! Thanks for taking me back :-)
