Did you hear buzzing? I sure did.
We had a scary incident happen to my family earlier this week at the playground at the Big Walnut Sports Park.
My young daughters love to go there because they can run and play and there are never too many people there. That was the case on Tuesday when we made the trek out there for some fun in the sun.
We had been playing for a about a half hour when all of a sudden I heard my youngest begin to yell. Assuming it was something her older sister had done, I looked over and saw her standing by herself. I noticed her sister was a good distance away, so I wasn't sure what the fuss was all about. She began to dance as if on hot coals and then I saw them -- hornets.
Well, I assume they were hornets. I didn't get a good look, but the one thing I know for sure, is whatever they were, they were big and after my youngest. Quickly I yelled to my wife to grab her as they swarmed around her, while I grabbed my oldest and ushered her toward our vehicle.
We made our hasty retreat, as my oldest is freaking out, not knowing exactly what was going on.
Once we got to our Jeep, we found our youngest had been stung three times on her foot and once on each leg. Luckily, they didn't get her face or upper body.
After some tears and a few dabs of Benadryl, she was doing fine and feeling a little better. She had to wear her butterfly night slippers for a day or two until the swelling went down.
While I was impressed with her impromptu dance moves, that's one experience I don't want to repeat anytime soon.
