My Rango OMG moment

They said WHAT?!?
Ever have one of those "Oh my gosh" moments while taking your kids to a movie? Whenever I think about taking my kiddos to the movies, I always check out what others have to say and make sure it's a kid-friendly as possible.

On Saturday I decided to take my kids to see the Johnny Depp flick "Rango" and that's when I had one of my few "OMG" moments. For the most part the movie is decently kid friendly, but a few lines caught me off guard.

The word "hell" is tossed around a few times in quick passing shots, so I felt that those probably zipped past my kid's ears without making an impact. But as the movie wore on, there's one scene close to the end that was hard to ignore.

Instead of tossing a few curse words that hopefully flew past youngsters' ears, the scene I'm singling out features two characters and each tosses out a "damn" and a "go to hell".

Both my wife and I almost suffered whiplash as we looked at each other in shock. The words might not be the worst, but to two sets of little ears, or more importantly, to the parents of two sets of little ears it was huge.

I know I won't be able to shield them from everything forever, but when those situations sneak up and give a little shock, you try to do what you can.

Luckily I haven't heard either of my girls use any of the suspect words from "Rango", but they have been walking with a little swagger with a 10-gallon hat and a toothpick dangling from their lips. Should I be worried?

Thanks for the heads up. My kids don't miss those things, it would be a problem in our house. Sure they've heard the words before, but when a character is saying them then it makes the language seem okay for use.

It does have a "PG" rating, and with this particular movie, it got that rating because of rude humor, language, action and smoking. But, you can't protect the kids from everything, I'll bet it went right over their heads. If not, you would have noticed their little heads "whip lashing" around to look at you for a response. Don't worry, have fun!
