A day at the track

The race has begun. For the first time since coming to the famed Indianapolis 500, I was a little overtaken by emotion as the pre-race festivities took place.

In four previous trips to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I was always too swept up getting ready for the race, but today I decided to enjoy the beginning. For the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, I wanted to kind of let the history run over me.

Of all the pre-race traditions, Jim Nabor's rendition of "Back Home Again in Indiana" really got to me. I've never really desired to leave the great Hoosier State and I love all it has to offer, so the song has always been special to me.

Jared's taking care of the live blog at the IMS today, but I'll be updating the Banner Graphic Sports Twitter account periodically. Check it out.
