Free stuff on Marquee!Posted Friday, July 29, 2011, at 9:45 PM
Free copies of "The Boys in the Striped Pajamas" on Blu-ray are up for grabs. Visit Marquee to find out how to enter.
Our good friends at Lionsgate Home Entertainment gave us some copies of "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and "According to Jim: Season Four" and they're up from grabs. To be in the running for some free goods, visit the Marquee page and click on the Twitter follow link on the right. If you're not on Twitter, that's cool, just shoot me an email at cgardner@bannergraphic.com and you'll be entered to win. Winners will be chosen at random and the discs are on a first come, first served basis. Also, keep on eye on the Marquee page for future giveaways. We might even be able to talk Jared into getting some for music goodies for you. He plays a mean air harmonica by the way. It would be nice to see local events promoted in the Marquee, which I thought is what it was originally designed to do. Local productions by the Putnam County Playhouse and area high schools. Music performed by local musicians in the county at local restaurants and bars--or even if they bring in outside talent the business is local. Promotion of the Greencastle Arts Council First Friday events to support local artists and businesses. The wide variety of events that are provided by the Putnam County Public Library that are for all ages--including their annual author series. The events sponsored by the Putnam County Museum. I could go on and on. There is a great deal to do in Greencastle. In addition to DePauw, the community includes so many talented people, great organizations, and good restaurants and businesses that could use the support of the Banner. What happened to "keep the green in Greencastle?" The Marquee would be a great way to market what is going on locally. I don't care what is happening in LA or NYC--tell us what we can do in our own town and county during the week!
Most everything you mentioned is covered on the News side of the Banner Graphic in our print edition. Our entertainment page, Marquee, is produced once a week and it would be difficult to include everything local on it. Also with my full-time duties as Sports Editor and Jared's as Assistant Editor, it doesn't leave much time for us to go out to events, especially myself since I work the night shift. I completely agree that we have an amazingly talented community and we should get out and enjoy it. Also, I've never reviewed anything that hasn't been playing or available locally or within a short drive.
