Let's close the book on this onePosted Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 10:34 PM
As I was making the (long) drive back from South Putnam's regional softball game Saturday, I got to thinking about this entire sports year and how our Putnam County teams have performed.
I did so because the South Putnam loss, coupled with Raine Young's appearance at the boys' track state finals on Saturday, left only Monday's boys' golf sectional on the calendar. Now, far be it from me to sell our boys short on Monday. I'll be heading down to Martinsville and I hope to see that multiple players or even teams are heading on to the Thursday's Center Grover Regional. But the fact remains, the end is near. Repent! So, anyway, I was thinking about the last year and the team sectional champs I've seen crowned. I noticed a little fact I liked. Putnam county has had four sectional team champions during the 2007-08 school year. I'm sure there have been better totals in the past, but that's still pretty nice. So here's the list in chronological order: Cloverdale volleyball, North Putnam football, Greencastle boys' swimming and South Putnam softball. For those of you keeping score at home, that's one for each school. In the 15(ish) months I've been in Putnam County, I've come to love the county as a whole. Each school has its different strengths, but I've found welcoming environments and lots of very good kids at each of the schools. I was a part of a sectional champion football team once in my high school career. It felt absolutely great. I'm glad to know that one group of kids at each of the four county schools got that feeling this year. Have a good summer, kids. See you in August. It's time for me to catch up on the sleep I've missed in the last 10 months. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
