For my next trick...
As it was made clear in this forum a couple of weeks ago, I recently became the Banner Graphic music critic. I felt that this title, coupled with my status as sports editor, pretty well locked me in as having the most trivial job I know. (Or at least it put me in a tie with Caine, our sports writer/movie critic.)
But then another development came along and now I'm the assistant editor/music critic. (Making Caine the new sports editor.) So now my job returns somewhat to the grown-up realm. It won't be fun and games every night the way it has been in the past, but I expect it to be a new and exciting challenge.
I look forward to bringing the same energy and dedication to the news that I have brought to sports for the last year-and-a-half.
To those of you who got to know me in my capacity as sports editor, I look forward to still seeing you. I plan to occasionally contribute in the sports department for the simple fact that I love it too much not to. I also hope to get out to a game or two as just a regular old fan. It's been so long I may have forgotten what it's like.
Additionally, I am currently wearing both hats as we go through the transitional phase. It's exhausting, but I think it will be worth it in the end.
As to my new duties, I hope no one is too worried. Although I sometimes like to feign being completely trivial in the way I approach life, I am more serious-minded than I like to pretend. Before coming to Greencastle, I was simultaneously the managing editor of three small weekly papers. I even graduated with honors in college.
I am serious when I need to be, and my career is certainly an area that needs it.
My first order of business in the real world is simply getting to know my new duties, who I will be dealing with, where I will be going and when. Once I settle in to my new schedule, I'm not too worried about the new responsibilities.
The first order of business here in cyberspace is finding a new name for this blog. While I can assure you that the topics will often still be about my favorite trivialities, sports and music, I just think the name lacks wit unless its basically a sports-only blog.
Anyone have any suggestions? Post your comments. I'm always open to ideas.
