What is wrong with you?
(Not with YOU. If you're reading my blog, then you're quite all right with me.)
No. What is wrong with you, Rex Perkins and Ryan Hanlon?
For those of you unfamiliar with these two geniuses, they are the Arizona Cardinals fans who thought it was wise to play a little prank on Donovan McNabb last week in the days leading up to the Cards/Eagles NFC Championship game matchup.
McNabb has a home in Chandler, Ariz., and on Thursday, the duo hung a Cardinals flag in McNabb's tree. The QB laughed and even left the flag hanging.
On Friday, they left a box in his driveway that said "Go Cards" and "Beath Philly." Again, McNabb laughed it off. It was harmless.
Then he got up on Saturday morning and smelled diesel fuel. Perkins and Hanlon had burned "Go Cards," "Go Kurt" and "I heart AZ" into McNabb's yard, causing $2,000 in damage.
And that was when a line was crossed.
But you're thinking, "Well, kids do stupid stuff sometimes. Get the boys to pay McNabb back, do some community service and be done with it."
Unfortunately, these "boys" were ages 37 and 28.
Which begs the question, at what point do we become too old for this kind of stupidity?
I won't deny that I've been on a few pranks in my time. My friends and I once had quite a collection of road signs. We were known to mess with Christmas ornaments (but never steal them). We might rearrange someone's lawn furniture.
But I know we never did anywhere near $2,000 worth of damage to anything.
And besides that, I had quit with that kind of stupidity by the time I was 19 or so.
There's a time and a place for everything. But when you're almost 40 and it's Donovan McNabb's yard, it is neither the time nor the place.
