Madness!
March is no time of year for me to make a good impression on a new boss.
I'm one week into working for a new editor, and what happened today? It was selection Sunday.
That means we're only two days away (under the stupid new 68-team format) from the official beginning of March Madness.
The second weekend of March has long been a special time for me. Those first two days are the best part of an upside-down arrangement where a three-week event actually reaches its climax at the beginning. You get through Thursday and Friday, to find Saturday and Sunday slightly less exciting. After that, there are six more days of game watching, each less exciting than the last if only because there's less and less to take in.
With that in mind, I used to always take the Thursday and Friday off to go somewhere to watch all the games with friends. It also never hurt that most of the time, St. Patrick's Day also fell within those first four days.
Let's just say a good time was had by all.
But I'm allegedly a grownup now, so those days have passed. I sometimes toy with the idea of taking a personal day or two, but didn't think the timing was right this year. Instead, I'll suffer through those two days as distracted as the rest of the college basketball-loving workforce.
All this leaves me in the position of trying to keep the honeymoon going with Eric at the helm, while also feeding my need for college basketball action.
Thursday and Friday should be interesting. Stay tuned.
By the way, even as an IU fan, I'm really pulling for a Purdue-Notre Dame showdown in the regional semis.
