24 Songs of Christmas, Dec. 7: 'Here Comes Santa Claus' -- Alvin and the Chipmunks
My brief mention of the Chipmunks from yesterday leads nicely into today's song. Through at least four different albums, Ross Bagadasarian Sr. and Ross Bagdasarian Jr. (both as David Seville) gave us dozens of holiday gems from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
While a number of these novelty classics could be considered, the selection has to have the essential elements of Alvin hamming it up a little too much for David's taste, and the ensuing tension between the two.
True, this one lacks the "Alvin ... Alvin ... ALVIN!" of "Christmas Don't Be Late," but Alvin's spoken word interlude on "Here Comes Santa Claus" is the lead chipmunk at his melodramatic finest.
Due for Dec. 8 (My birthday): "Angels We Have Heard on High"
