Tuesday Jam: The birthday girl's most requested song
My daughter turns five today, so I'm taking a break from the COVID-19 songs.
Instead, I turn to her favorite song. Well, a protest blues song from Neil Young's 1974 gem "On the Beach" is almost certainly not a five-year-old girl's favorite.
It's probably something from "Grease."
But when she gets in the car with me, she knows we're not listening to that. Or whatever insult to good taste five-year-olds are into these days. (Imagine Dragons, maybe?)
So, "Vampire Blues" is the request that comes most often.
Why? I'm not sure. Even as a big Neil Young fan, I'd go with about 50 other songs over this one.
"Powderfinger"
"Down By the River"
"Out on the Weekend"
"Walk On"
"Rockin' In the Free World"
And on and on and on. So many good selections. But not "Vampire Blues."
At her age, her brother would have chosen "Sugar Mountain," which is more or less a kid's song.
But, hey, it's not his birthday or mine. It's my little girl's.
So, wherever you are, enjoy this song. And if you have any idea, let me know what the appeal is to a five-year-old girl.
Happy birthday, Hannah. I love you!
