Lucky Dad
As I'm still a novice at celebrating Father's Day, I'm not really sure how I would define the "perfect" Father's Day. It's only my second time around.
I guess it would go something like this: start the day with an uplifting message at church, spend some time with both my dad and my son (it isn't just my day), a couple of good meals, settle in to the final day of the U.S. Open and a lemonade.
If only life were so simple.
Instead, Father's Day is a bit of a blur to me. We were back in our hometown and my wife and I slept in before heading to my brother's to celebrate with his family and Dad.
My brother cooked out. The food was good, but it was kind of a rush. One of my nieces couldn't be there and the other had to get to her softball game. (It wasn't planned for Father's Day, it had been delayed by rain the day before. Yes, rain still exists somewhere in Indiana.)
Once Ella was off to her game, it was rushing back to Greencastle for us. I had to work.
Fun.
By the time the paper was done, Father's Day was all but over.

Fortunately for me, I have a wonderful wife and son who had better things in store for me on Monday.
I won't claim anything was perfect, as there was a LONG commissioner's meeting to interrupt our celebration on Monday night, but we had a wonderful evening.
I got home from work and was greeted with a couple of wonderful presents. That may not be the important part, but it made me smile.
Then I got some time with my two favorite people before running off to the EOC for my meeting.
When I got home, I was greeted with a dinner of breakfast foods, which is one of my favorite meals. Once I was fat and happy on biscuits and gravy and hashbrown casserole, it was time for Miles' bath and some relaxation before bed.
My job may not allow me to have the perfect Father's Day, but what is perfect anyway? With two people loving me as much as my wife and son do, I can't ask for anything more.
