What really grinds my gears

Generally, I'm a very perky person. I walk around each day with a smile on my face, but there are some things that really get me going.

The nice person I am, decided to bake my assistant editor, Jared, a cake for his birthday, which is tomorrow. I however, did not have a cake pan and was forced to dish out money for something I'll most likely only use once or twice.

So, last night I ran into Kroger to buy a cake pan and one package of candles. With my two little items in hand I made my way to the self-checkout line.

As I arrive I see a line, then I notice everyone checking out has their entire carts full of items and then it hit me, I'm going to be standing here for quite sometime.

Now, I understand self-checkouts can be quite exciting. Growing up I always loved making my Barbie's pretend to scan items at my little plastic grocery store. When I worked retail I also loved scanning those ever so magical barcodes.

I also understand when buying certain items, people are afraid of judgment and cashiers do judge you based on your items.

I for one am not one for making small talk. I'm terrible at it. I also don't really care about how a person's day is going in which I don't know and most likely will never see again.

But, there is nothing that irritates me more than someone who goes to the self-checkout with a ton of items. With there being no Express Checkout lane open, I was forced to wait for people to use the self-checkout with full carts instead of going to the various open lanes which include cashiers and baggers.

I know that people just love to take their time around here. I however, am on a mission when I am at the grocery store. I cringe at the site of full carts entering the self-checkout. It doesn't bother me if one has a few items. But, an entire cart, c'mon now.
