I get by with a little help from my friendsPosted Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 4:42 PM
It is almost time for some of my best friends to make their way down to Greencastle this weekend. This will be the first visit for almost all of them and words cannot explain how excited I am to finally get them all here at one time.
Adjusting to life without being able to see my friends on a daily basis has been hard. I found myself spending most of my time inside thinking I may not be ready to grow up quite yet.
I've gone from being with the same people for nearly four years to seeing them once a month. Although, many of us have graduated from college, several are still in Muncie attending Ball State and many of them living in Indianapolis. Thus, I'm the farthest away and I get to see them the least.
Many people tell you to savor those college years as long as you can. I came to a point my senior year where I realized I was just ready to move on. It was time to grow up. Yet, as soon as graduation came about, I found myself sad, not wanting to leave.
I thought of every excuse I could to stay in Muncie for just a few more days. But, soon it was time to get down to business and move back to Chicago to start my summer job as a nanny.
I guess the summer really was the start of me growing up. In the years prior I spent very little time in the summer in Chicago. I attended summer school after returning from studying abroad and then I lived in New York City for my internship. It really set in that I wasn't able to see the people I love most as much as I had wanted, but I had my friends and family in Chicago. Greencastle, I knew nobody.
Over time I feel I have really come into my own. I've adjusted to Greencastle quite well now and I make a point of traveling wherever I need to, to make sure I get to see my friends at least once a month.
Although, every one of my friends has a very different personality, we are one dysfunctional group of friends. We have an insane amount of love for each other. No matter how far away I may move, I know that I will never lose touch with a single one of them and I will always make time to visit them, wherever life may take us and I for one cannot wait to hit the town this weekend with all of them by my side.
(Sorry for being a bit mushy.)
