"I love Ohio it's a great town!"Posted Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at 10:48 AM
As much as I love the Chicago Blackhawks, I think I can go a few weeks without going to see another game or go on another road trip.
Many hockey fans know, we lost nine games in a row during our last road trip. However, we have now won the last three games, two of which I was in attendance for.
My family has had season tickets to the Blackhawks for quite some time now, and my brother enjoys calling me a jinx due to a few games we lost while I was in attendance. I however made a friendly wager that during this weekend, we would win each game, thus securing me a seat if we head to the playoffs. Well, we won.
The weekend started off with my brother and his two friends coming to Greencastle on Friday evening. After showing them a pretty good time, as much fun as you can really have in Greencastle, we left at 7 a.m. to head towards Columbus.
This would have been okay but most of us were on an hour or less of sleep. The drive was a bit rough. However when we arrived in Columbus, it was time to get fired up.
We checked into the hotel, which was a block away from the arena and made our way over. The 11:30 a.m. start, which many of us were excited about, would allow us plenty of time to explore the city of Columbus afterwards.
It was the lack of sleep and the early start which also allowed some of us to crash by around 6 p.m. So, I was left with my brother and one of his old high school friends to explore Columbus after the expected yet fantastic 6-1 Blackhawks win.
After hours of walking around town, I forced myself to go back to the hotel, falling asleep around midnight, only to wake up at 4 a.m. and start the trek back home to Chicago.
Due to everyone's lack of sleep most overslept and we didn't get out of the hotel until 5:30, it took us a total of nine minutes to pack up and get out the door.
We made our way to Chicago for game number two. My body was about ready to give out, but we made it just a half hour after the gates open, securing a bobble head in the process.
During a decently tough game, we beat St. Louis 3-1. A solid win.
As much as I love the Blackhawks, I am going to have to abstain from all road trips until further notice. I'm still trying to catch up on sleep two days later.
