Growing up...Posted Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 1:42 PM
These are my lovely friends celebrating July 4th in Florida. They're in a band called Eight Stories High, which is pretty fantastic.
This year however, my lovely Independence Day was spent putting the Thursday paper together. A last minute invite to a barbeque in Indianapolis had my spirits a bit down, but I guess it's time to realize I'm no longer a college kid who can do whatever I please whenever I please. I've graduated and taken on the role as a full-time staff member here at the Banner Graphic. I may have missed out on some summer fun with those I don't get to see that often, but at least I was able to stand on the roof of the Banner Graphic and watch some fireworks. In the beginning, I would say that I thought the firework show was better than the one I had seen at home just a day before. I know this is a much smaller town compared to where I hail from, but the finale of the show was somewhat lacking. The finale, which took nearly one minute to complete was better in the fact that it included so many different types and colors of fireworks. The one I had seen just one day earlier lasted for a good ten minutes, but also didn't mix things up. The finale at home had fired up all the red fireworks at once, then the blue, gold and so on. I like seeing the mixing of colors instead of just seeing one color at a time, it's kind of dull. So, as most people enjoyed a full day off work and barbequing, I had to work. It may not sound like the ideal situation, but it was not all that bad. I got to live through my friend's picture texts and that was enough for me. Now, that the holiday has past it's time to gear up for fair week, Lollapalooza, a trip to Ohio and maybe a trip to Florida. I don't know if I'm quite ready for my first fair that includes an animal auction and a fair queen contest. |
