There are worse things than a bad hair day

I knew when I got up hour an earlier than I needed to and didn't discover it until I was already in my car and driving to work it wasn't going to be a good day. It started when I took my usual morning shower and began drying my hair. It just wouldn't fall into place. It was flat and kept falling forward in a floppy clump. I didn't have time to work with it because I was late.
Next I couldn't find anything to wear, even though I had laid out an outfit. It didn't look right when I put it on. I had to iron a blouse and dig through the closet for a pair of shoes. I congratulated myself for choosing the same pair of shoes in blue and black making it easier to match outfits. Finally, I got in my car and drove down Shadowlawn. About ten blocks from home I noticed my car clock said 5:30 when it should say 6:30. I checked my watch, after turning on the overhead light because it was raining and dark outside. Hmmm, my watch said 5:30 too. Something was wrong. I turned around making a u-turn in the middle of the road afterall, no one else was out on the roads yet. I came back home, told my husband the time on the alarm clock was wrong. Now, normally I don't even use an alarm. I am one of those people who can make themselves wake up at whatever time I want. I had set the alarm as a precaution. I just didn't trust myself and it was my second day on a new job. My husband just laughed, rolled over and went back to sleep. I spent 15 minutes working on my hair. It didn't improve. I made a cup of coffee, checked the Banner website to see the news of the day. I answered e-mails. Worked on my hair for another 10 minutes, it was just getting worse. Finally, it was actually 6:30 and time to get in the car and go. I hit highway 240 going out of town and got behind a truck going 35 in a 55 mph zone. It took an extra 10 minutes to get to Highway 40. There I got behind a school bus that stops every three blocks for two miles. Finally, exactly on time, I pull into the parking lot at work. It's now raining hard not just drizzling. No umbrella. I get inside, race into the ladies room and discover my hair is actually looking better soaking wet than it had dry. I rush to get to my desk and look down. I'm wearing one blue and one black shoe. I guess there are worse things than having a bad hair day. |
