Time to Stop and Give Thanks

We get into such a rush from time to time that we lose sight of what's around us. Our lives are so hectic these days -- not always in a good sense -- that it's good that we pause at least on the fourth Thursday of the eleventh month to remember to give thanks for all the blessings in our lives.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving:

I'm thankful for three adorable grandchildren (Mathew -- 5, Riley -- 3, and the new addition Emma).

I'm thankful for two wonderful twin daughters, one married and one, hopefully, on her way there, who I could not be prouder of or could ask for better friends than they are to me.

I'm thankful for a son who is intelligent, sensitive and loving. A good human being who mostly makes good judgments -- hard to do at the age of 18 -- who is ready to move on with his life and toward all the good things that lay before him.

I'm thankful for having a loving, supportive husband who even though I make him crazy from time to time, still laughs at my jokes and knows when to hold me close.

I'm thankful for having brothers and other family members and friends and colleagues who help me be the best I can be everyday.

I'm thankful for my cat Sunny who runs our household, and my new wonderful dog Roadie who is a ray of sunshine everyday.

I'm thankful for all the blessings that time and love have brought into my life and all the time yet to come when I will be able to enjoy them even more than today.

I'm thankful that there are men and women willing to put themselves in harms' way to protect me and my loved ones even if it means traveling around the world to do it and giving up their time with their families or even more.

I'm thankful to live in country where the freedom to pursue happiness in life, love, religion and speech is still a guiding principle more than 225 years after its beginnings.

So Thursday when I watch the news -- and it's bad -- and the economy is sinking and the war rages on, I can still give thanks for all the good thoughts, good things and good people that are with me every day of my life and all the love and kindness that's been shown to me in this last year.

And, I thank God for all these blessings.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Very well said. In spite of the gloom and doom presented by the media (most justified) we still have so many things to be thankful for.

Even though it has it's faults we still live in the greatest country in the world. Visiting other countries makes a person realize exactly how good we have it here. Just look at the amount of people coming here to live and work. Don't hear much about others leaving the USA to live in other countries unless it is job related.

We as Americans are surrounded by great blessings. Sometimes things cloud our "vision" and we are unable to see some of them but they are here.
