CLOVERDALE -- On Thursday, the heavens opened up on the golfers participating the 2010 Putnam County Golf tournament. Fortunately, the heavens poured down sunshine instead of rain, and the tournament went off without a hitch. Behind the power of Jimmy Wheeler's medalist round of even-par 36, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs were crowned the champions, beating out the host Clovers by 10 strokes, 161-171. Judy Miller and Frances Washburne with the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry help postal carrier Janie Briones unload some of the over 4,000 pounds of food collected by U.S. Postal Carriers last Saturday. Members of South Putnam High School and Central Elementary School collected this batch that Briones was delivering to the pantry. The count isn't final yet, with amounts not recorded yet from Bainbridge, Roachdale and other county post offices. But the numbers are up this year from last. Some of the food collected will also go to Two Fish Food Pantry in Bainbridge. For information about the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry call 301-4431 or 653-1365.

Eva M. Smith, 101, Cloverdale, passed away on May 13, 2010 at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle. She was born on Dec. 7, 1908 in Owen County and was the daughter of the late Curry B. and Emma Twomey Hart. She was married to Harold H. "Banty" Smith Sr., and he preceded her in death. GREENCASTLE -- With the donation of $500, First National Bank became a Trust Patron for the Mary Allison Children's Trust Fund. The money was donated to the annual golf outing set for July 9 at Old Hickory Golf Course.
