Putnam County Jail

Six people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* Michael Lewis, 50, Bainbridge, was booked in at 2:35 p.m. Monday for driving while intoxicated. He was arrested by Bainbridge Marshal Rodney Fenwick. He was released on $500 bond at 8:12 p.m. Monday.

* Jeramy Lee Newgent, 30, Greencastle, was booked in at 6:56 p.m. Monday for possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and reckless driving. He was by Trooper Steinkamp. He was released on $500 bond at 9:22 p.m. Monday.

* Ted Lee Thomas, 21, Knightstown, was booked in at 8:26 p.m. Monday for possession of alcohol by a minor. He was arrested at PCJ.

* Travis Ray Crabtree, 38, Cloverdale, was booked in at 9:27 p.m. Monday on a petition to revoke probation. He was arrested by Cloverdale Assistant Chief Tim Walker.

* Ashley Tienna Johnson, 20, Indianapolis, was booked in at 10:51 p.m. Monday for theft. She was arrested by Trooper Heath Kerns.

* Melissa Strand-Skinner, 51, Fillmore, was booked in at 11:49 p.m. Monday for driving while intoxicated, neglect of a dependent, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. She was arrested by Deputy Craig Sibbitt.

Sheriff's Dept.

Three accidents were investigated Friday by the Putnam County Sheriff's Dept.

At 10:58 a.m., two vehicles collided on CR 975 South near CR 775 East.

Lt. Danny Wallace reported that Phillip W. Rumley Jr., 18, 7986 E. CR 975 South, Cloverdale, was backing out of a driveway to head east in a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass when his car was rear-ended by a 1988 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Steve E. Stinson, 55, 8470 S. CR 475 East, Cloverdale.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 6:04 p.m., two vehicles collided on CR 725 East near Bainbridge.

Chief Deputy Virgil Lanning reported that Randall J. Charles, 41, 4374 N. CR 800 East, Coatesville, was driving a southbound 1989 Toyota pickup when he started to turn left into a driveway. He failed to see a northbound 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Lawrence E. Williams, 60, Rockville.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

* At 8:18 p.m., two vehicles collided at 8:18 p.m. on U.S. 231 at U.S. 36.

Deputy Doug Nally reported that Kenneth E. Neff, 23, Payne, Ohio, was driving west in a 2002 Ford pickup when he was drinking some water and failed to see the traffic light turn red. He said he could not stop in time and ran into 2005 Kenworth semi driven by Albert R. Yates, 50, Coal City.

Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

City Police

Greencastle police investigated two accidents and issued several tickets recently.

* At 11:26 a.m. Friday, three vehicles collided on Ind. 240 at Indianapolis Road.

Capt Mike Hanlon reported that Samantha Sillery, 17, Greencastle, had stopped her westbound 2000 Dodge Ram at the stop light. Crystal VanArdsale, 17, Greencastle, had stopped her 1999 Pontiac Grand Am behind the pickup truck. However, James Todd Miller, 17, Greencastle, locked up the brakes on his 1996 Plymouth Neon on the wet road and slid into the rear of the VanArsdale car, pushing it into the Sillery truck.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Hanlon was assisted at the scene by Officer Ed Wilson and Reserve Officer Heath Smiley.

At 8:03 p.m. Saturday, a motorcycle and truck collided on North Jackson Street at West Jacob.

Officer Travis DeLaGrange reported that Derek Tomaw, 17, Cloverdale, was driving north in a 1999 Dodge Ram when he started to turn onto Jacob Street by the Putnam Inn and failed to see a southbound 1983 Honda motorcycle driven by Randolph Kaelber, 54, Brazil.

Kaelber said he braked when he saw the turning truck, but the truck hit the motorcycle, causing Kaelber to be ejected and suffer multiple injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Tomaw later complained of neck pain and drove to the hospital for treatment.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Assisting at the scene were Officers Eric Vaughan and Michael Collins.

* At 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Sgt. Charles Inman ticketed Thomas Dobson, 23, Reelsville, for false and fictitious registration. He was stopped on Veterans Highway.

* At 7:10 p.m. Friday, Inman ticketed Shaunteil Poseltwait, 27, Greencastle, for driving while suspended on Indianapolis Road.

* At 8:50 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Christopher Jones ticketed Opal Hickenbotham, 44, Greencastle, for expired license plate at Ind. 240 and 10th Street.

* At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Jones ticketed Stephen Troutman, 40, Greencastle, for driving while suspneded on Veterans Highway.

* At 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Officer DeLaGrange ticketed Kyle Faletic, 19, Cloverdale, for speeding 50 mph in a 30 mph zone on Bloomington Street at Martinsville Street.

Greencastle Fire Dept.

The Greencastle Fire Dept. responded to four recent runs.

On Monday:

* At 8:14 a.m., firefighters responded to 7 E. Larabee St. (DePauw University's Harrison Hall) for a fire alarm. The alarm was set off due to construction. Firefighters returned to station at 8:26 a.m.

* At 4 p.m., firefighters responded to 904 S. College St. (Kappa Alpha Theta) for a fire alarm. The alarm was set off due to construction. Firefighters returned to station at 4:12 p.m.

* At 8:38 p.m., firefighters responded to 408 S. Locust St. (DePauw's Union Building) for a fire alarm. The alarm was set off due to malfunction. Firefighters returned to station at 9 p.m.

On Tuesday:

* At 2:38 a.m., firefighters responded to 1601 Hospital Dr. (The Waters of Greencastle) for a fire alarm. The alarm was set off due to a sprinkler system leak. Firefighters returned to station at 3:29 a.m.
