Work continues on the new Kroger gas station

Kroger grocery store has been undergoing some major changes over the last few months. But finishing touches will be made both inside and outside by mid-July.

The new fuel center outside the store is scheduled to open July 4, job supervisor Clester Crum told The BannerGraphic. Store manager Julie Bryant said the grand opening of the new store area should happen around July 12 or 19.

For the past two months, K and W Fueling has been installing a new gas station on the southwest side of the decade-old grocery store. Renovations have also included building a new sidewalk along Indianapolis Road.

Thursday, crews were starting to put in dispensers, as well as clean and fill the gas tanks. Off to the side, erosion mats were placed on the dirt by the new sidewalk.

Crum said all that was left to do afterward is cleaning and striping the area.

As for the inside of the store, Bryant said the work that began about three months ago is almost complete.

Even though the schedule to open is tentative, shoppers can already see both the major and minor changes that have taken place.

Changes such as a new salad wall in the produce section have been installed. Also there is a new soup and sandwich station over by the deli, and a few new food islands have been added, just to name only some of the renovations.

Bryant said that almost every aisle was re-done to reach the general goal to offer both more product and a larger variety.

"We've really just upscaled a lot of things," she said.
