Midsummer Night's Dream at Playhouse

The second play of the 46th season of Putnam County Playhouse will be director Amy Hayes' production of William Shakespeare's comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream." It will open Thursday, with additional performances Friday and Saturday, continuing Wednesday, July 18 to Saturday, July 21.

All performances are at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre in Greencastle and will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $9 each and can be reserved by telephoning the box office at 765-653-5880. Regular box office hours are 5-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday during performance weeks.

The corporate sponsor for the production is Fine Print Bookstore and Fine Print Printing.

Playing leading roles are Heather Owens (Hermia), Adam Tran (Lysander), Aaron Herd (Demetrius), and Megan Sorti (Helena).

Some familiar PCPH faces are also to be found. They include Dan Stockton (Snout), Scott Armitage (Peter Quince), Jim Rambo (Egeus), Mary Michael (Flute), and Tim Fox (Bottom).

The large cast also includes Tom Chiarella (Theseus), Chris White (Hippolyta), Marian Zennie (Philostrate), Matt McClaine (Snug), and Cecily Humphries (Starveling).

The fairy kingdom of Midsummer includes Kullan Edberg and Billy Whitehouse as Oberon and Titania. Their minions are Hannah Fenlon (Puck), Deborah Armitage (Peasebottom), Dominique LaFontant (Cobweb), Rebecca Moore (Moth), and Matthew Malone (Mustardseed). Olivia Humphreys, Madeleine Hayes, Jessica Wolfe, Alex Asbell, Noah Watson, Lily Spencer play assorted imps and fairies.

Director Hayes, who also choreographed the show, said recently, "Any good play is about us, about you and me. A good story well told resonates in us, teaches us about ourselves and brings us closer to who we are. This is especially true of Shakespeare's plays."

The Fret Set (Bill Lorton, Lenora Bowlby, Larry Kersey, Rick Smock, Brian Lesswing, Don Bowlby, Jesse Samm) will provide live music during the play.

The production staff includes Elizabeth Burton, assistant director/dramaturg; Andrew Hayes, scenic and light designer; Bryan Schroeder, stage manager; Rebecca Burton, assistant stage manager; and Sophia Spencer, costumes and props.

Others working behind the scenes or on the stage crew are Jim, Melissa, and Alix Green; Jessica Watson, Hannah Spencer, Alice Moore, Amelia Smith, Keri Good, Hannah Spencer, Meridith Miller, Jessica Ann Bessell, Seth Newman, Tammy Hastings, Sarah Dory.
