Artie Mildred Mercer

Artie Mildred Mercer, 92, Greencastle, died Friday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born in Eubanks, Ky., she was the daughter of George C. and Roxanna (Eastham) Gifford.

She resided most of her life in Spiceland and New Castle until she moved to Greencastle in 2002.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in New Castle and was attending the Cloverdale Church of Christ.

Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Ann Jones, San Diego, Calif.; a son, Duane C. Mercer and wife Donna, Martinsville; two brothers, Ercell Gifford and Raymond Gifford; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Mercer, and two sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle, with Carl Wright officiating.

Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
