Helen E. Ewing

Helen E. Ewing, 94, Greencastle, died Thursday.

Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Fischer) Mueller. She married Henry G. Ewing on Nov. 29, 1929, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1961.

A 1927 graduate of Providence High School, she worked at DePauw University for 27 years, retiring in 1985. She was a baker and well known for her wedding cakes and birthday cakes.

She was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild and a charter member of the Happier Home Extension Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Jennine Hoopingarner and husband Robert, Brazil, Joyce Leer and husband Larry, and Cheryl Salsman and husband Gary, all of Greencastle; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Ewing, Greencastle; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles J. Ewing, and two sisters.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery with Father Stephen Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
