Richard Lee Jones, 73, Puyallup, Wash., died Monday at Tacoma General Hospital.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Foster and Edna Jones.

He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1950, and after working for two years in Indianapolis, he joined the U.S. Army. He was a corporal, first class, while stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash.

He moved his family to Puyallup, Wash., in the 1960s, and he worked as a mason. He served as an officer in Local 1 of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Crafts, as an officer in regional union organizations. He was a member of the Puyallup Elks Lodge, and had been elected as a precinct committeeman to his local Democratic caucus.

He married Deloris Fay Thorsen in 1954. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Michael Jones, Ridgefield, Wash.; a brother, Robert Jones, Clearwater, Fla.; and a granddaughter.

A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Fir Lane Memorial Park, Spanaway, Wash. Internment will be at 2 p.m. Monday Tahoma National Cemetery.

Visitation is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the memorial park.
