Vernia C. Gibson, 98, Lebanon, formerly of Hendricks County, died Thursday afternoon at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Lebanon.

Born in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of Mirt and Melvina (Strode) Wilshire.

She and her husband owned Gibson's store and restaurant in Belleville for 20 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of Danville Christian Church.

She married Earl Gibson, who died in 1971.

Surviving are a son, Marvin Gibson, Noblesville; a daughter, Patricia Shockley, Lebanon; brother George Wilshire, West Lafayette; sister Mable Johnson, Crawfordsville; 15 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and sons Jack, Melvin "Dutch", Gene and Robert Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, with burial in Clayton Cemetery.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Monday.
