Monty R. Black, 54, Rockville, died Friday at West Central Community Hospital, Clinton.

Born in Clinton, he was the son of Tilmon E. and Uma Mae (Nolen) Black.

He was the owner/operator of Monty R. Black Trucking, Rockville. He had also been owner of Monty R. Black Pipeline Construction Co. in Rockville, and was later employed with Miller Pipeline Corp. as a superintendent.

He was a member of Rockville Christian Church, Parke Masonic Lodge 8, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157, and Rockville Elks Lodge. He had also served on the Rockville Town Council.

He married Diana McGrew on March 10, 1979. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Rockville; four sons, Monty R. Black Jr. and wife Wendy, New Market, Jeffrey A. Black and wife Becky, Scott Brown and wife Lori, and Dean Brown and wife Debbie, all of Rockville; daughter Buffie Pratt and husband Dennis, Rockville; brother Ronnie E. Black and wife Becky, Rockville; sisters Louanna Chenhall, Cathy Lancaster and husband Derek, and Angela Hamilton and husband Jerry, all of Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1989.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Gooch Funeral Home, Rockville, with Rev. Lynn D. Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday.
