Ben Smith, 81, Bainbridge, died Sunday at The Waters.

Born in Granite City, Mo., he was the son of William and Thelma (Fairchild) Smith.

He had been a millwright for 30 years with the Betchel Co. He was also a member of the VFW in Missouri.

Surviving are stepdaughter Sharon Metzger, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; stepsons Bill Farrell and Donald Farrell, Granite City; and dear friends Phil O'Neal and family, Greencastle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

There will be no visitation and no funeral service.

Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, is handling the arrangements.
